My Grandfather, Corporal Richard “Dick” Stevens
Image (Portrait) courtesy of my Uncle Paul. Thanks for sharing it.
My grandfather was 19 when he joined the Canadian military and shipped off to Europe to fight in WWII. When the war was over he brought home a bride, started a family and helped to pioneer a community. He was one of many who risked everything to build a civilization that his posterity could be proud to inherit . He is still alive today but thanking him for his service doesn’t seem like enough given his story. I think maybe, ‘thanks for everything’ would be better.
Thanks for everything, Grandpa. Thanks for everything you risked and sacrificed during the war but mostly and more importantly, thanks for being the man you became afterwards. I promise I will not forget either. Your legacy will live on in us.
